"I just returned from a fantastic Nia workshop at Madrona MindBody Institute in Port Townsend, which is where I attended my Nia White Belt. For me, White was a total-immersion magical experience.  Madrona MindBody is on the same grounds as Fort Worden, and during our training we got to stay on the property in dorm-like rooms, where our delicious, healthful and vegetarian-friendly meals were prepared for us. While we were tending to the nourishing of our souls and spirits, we were spoiled with the food that nourished our bodies. The location is stunningly beautiful and we even had a class on the beach. We had everything we needed and then some, and I did not get in my car for the entire week!"   Susan Creighton

Green Belt focuses entirely on developing and embodying the skills to effectively teach Nia. All belt levels who teach or desire to teach are strongly encouraged to attend this training. This training will focus on honing your teaching skills and working with the 13 principles of the White Belt.

In general the Nia Education Program can be divided into five competency areas: Anatomy, Music, Movement, Methodology and Philosophy. In the Green Belt, students will go through a 5-day intensive program that takes all of the 13 White Belt Principles through the framework of the five competency areas specifically to develop teaching skills. In addition to the competency areas, students will continue to perfect their skill at modeling and working with the 52 Moves and demonstrating the moves for different fitness levels. Students will work with the Nia's 5 Sensations of Fitness: Flexibility, Mobility, Strength, Agility and Stability to deliver the Nia Experience that promises physical fitness through seeking pleasure in the body.

The Nia Promise and Delivering the Nia Experience are phrases we use to express the transformative power of Nia; to a Nia Teacher's ability to deeply move and touch people within the classroom environment. As a teacher, your role is to guide people through a meaningful journey of physical conditioning and self-discovery. Teaching Nia is all about sharing your personal experience – your physical and emotional sensations, visual images and feelings. To do so, you must have a solid understanding of the form, objective curriculum and communication techniques.

Green Belt comprehensively explores all mechanics of delivering the work, including embodying the choreography, cueing, creating intentional silences, dancing to the music and helping people achieve their personal fitness goals. Whether you are a novice or a seasoned teacher, Green Belt will further your teaching skills. New teachers develop confidence, craft and skill by learning and practicing the foundations of teaching. Seasoned teachers refine and deepen their understanding, building on their craft and receiving feedback from peers to deliver the most powerful experience possible.

The Green Belt training includes a pre-training course based on the 13 White Belt principles. As part of the training, you will learn and work with the routine, Passion.
