Ancient and Modern Dances of the Sacred Feminine
Combining the ancient roots of belly dance with a modern twist, Tribal Belly Dance incorporates elements of other dance forms such as Indian, hip-hop, flamenco and vaudeville. Earthy and snake-like yet fun and cheeky, music ranges from world to electronic to contemporary. This class teaches you how to move fluidly and how to control your body parts independently, while toning the abdominals, encouraging good posture, improving flexibility, and inspiring you to find beauty and power within your body. Come celebrate femininity through an ancient, life-embracing art!
In this six-week series, students will learn basic belly dance technique, including posture, shimmies, isolations, undulations and traveling steps. Class will include a brief introduction to the history, context, and philosophy of belly dance. Simple choreography will teach students to incorporate new movements.
No previous experience necessary.

Stormy Ganton - gypsy belly dancing farm girl, women’s wild soul facilitator and creator of Body Divine Dance is returning to Madrona MindBody Institute to teach women Tribal Belly Dance. Stormy has been teaching belly dance for more than a decade and studying women’s spirituality for more than twenty years. She integrates these two into women’s sacred dance embodiment practices where women connect with the Sacred Feminine both within and without through heart energy and womb wisdom.
She has had the delicious occasion to study with several belly dance masters and incorporate their art form into her own dance. Most recently, she studied Temple Tribal Fusion and Indian Odissi Temple Dance with Tenley Wallace. Previously she has taken classes, workshops and certification programs from Rachel Brice and from Carolena Nericcio, creator of American Tribal Style.
When she’s not dancing or inspiring women you can find her frolicking in the garden, wild harvesting, knitting, or indulging in her self-help book addiction with a hot cup of coffee nearby.
